The Sikirica Gallery from Sinj, in cooperation with the Histeria Nova arts organisation, will organise the multimedia exhibition Rusalke Emerging from Cetina... within the cultural and entertainment event of the Days of Alka and Assumption and the whole-year programme Woman in the Dalmatian Hinterland.

Through multimedia content, the authors of the exhibition Darija Brković and Dragana Modrić will present the lives of those women who said NO to tradition.

The programme starts with a dance performance of the famous choreographer and dancer Marija Šćekić, whose solo performance results from a close cooperation with the local cultural clubs. Choreography is based on the nijemo kolo silent circle dance – protected intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia.

The Woman in the Dalmatian Hinterland project includes a comprehensive field study, an exhibition and a dance performance. Through the characteristic life-cycle customs, the performance will show how difficult was the position of a woman in a patriarchal community, from the moment she was born to the moment of her death. Stage movement, original music and costume design will all work to symbolically bring to life certain fragments of the Sinj history, such as the downfall of the formerly significant and exceptionally important symbols of the town of Sinj: the Sinj railway (popularly known as rera) and the Dalmatinka – textile factory.

After the dance performance, the opening ceremony will be moved from the town centre to the area in front of the Sikirica Gallery, situated at the Alka Knights Court.

The exhibition is multilayered and audiovisual, on the one hand following individual women's experiences and on the other the consequent changes. It will show a transition from the rural to the urban woman working in a factory, in this case, the Dalmatinka, and consequently contributing financially to her family.

The programme will be held on 26 July 2013 at 09.00pm at King Tomislav Square (Trg kralja Tomislava) in Sinj.
