International Promotion in the USA – Sinjska Alka and Sinj as Activity Holiday Destination
At the invitation of Ms Marina Pavletić and Ms Gordana Čačinović, both from Sinj and permanent residents of the US, the promotion of the tercentenary of the glorious victory over the Ottomans will be held in Chicago and New York, as well as the promotion of the knightly Alka and the town of Sinj as an activity holiday destination.
The Croatian-American Day, a traditional event celebrating Croatian-American heritage, culture and history, has been held for years in Daley Plaza at Chicago. As part of this event, the outdoor Sinj Tourist Information Centre will promote the Alka tercentenary and a new offer of activity holiday with a special emphasis on the MedPaths project cycle paths and the Our Lady of Sinj pilgrimage walk.
Meetings with the representatives of US agencies and tour operators selling package tours to Croatia in Chicago and New York will take place at the Croatian Consulate General, as well as the meetings with foreign journalists who will report on the presentation.
On 8 May, the exhibition of photographs of the Sinjska Alka and Sinj will be opened at Columbia College Chicago, and the photographs will be on exhibition until 15 May.
On its 25th anniversary dinner, the AMAC Midwest society, an association of former students of Croatian universities, will organise the promotion of Sinj and the Alka, the precious pearl of our history that has been inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity for five years now.
The three hundred year old Alka tradition and numerous opportunities for activity holiday will be presented on 13 May at the Croatian Consulate General in New York. Apart from journalists and tour operators, the attendees include Ms Spomenka Cek, Consul General of Croatia in New York, the UNESCO representative, and Mr Vladimir Drobnjak, Permanent Representative of Croatia to the UN.
