Our town has also joined the glorious and fun trend of expectant waiting for the holidays and New Year in a cheerful spirit of peace and togetherness. We have shown that besides the hustle and bustle of hot July and August days, we also hit the mark in the winter wonderland.

The organizers of the Advent in Sinj – the Town of Sinj, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sinj, Sinj Tourist Board, and a number of associations – have created a rich and attractive program for the Advent, which takes place from December 6 till January 7, and where everyone will surely find something to enjoy.

Our youngest residents and their little guests were particularly excited for Saint Nicholas’ Day, which marked the start of the Days of Joy, Play and Peace in Sinj. There was plenty of content to enjoy – from magic shows, performances featuring majorettes and the children’s town choir Sinj’s Nightingales, as well as the handing out of candy. The kids had a number of reasons for joy in the days that followed; they could enjoy different shows and plays, storytelling events, interactive educational workshops and a promo sale of imaginative handmade works. They could also participate in a play titled The Fisherman and his Wife in the Hall of Our Lady of Sinj and watch The Miracle of Christmas puppet show. Having their picture taken with Santa Claus is of course not to be missed, as well as the gift giveaway which will take place on Šetalište Alojzija Stepinca promenade, on December 23 at 7 p.m. Children’s Midnight Mass will be held on Christmas Eve at 8 p.m. at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sinj, in front of a beautifully decorated nativity scene which represents a magical Christmas experience for each and every child.

Every year the festive and tranquil Sanctuary proves too small to hold all the believers who visit in the night of the birth of Our Lord. The church of Sinj hosted this year’s Bethlehem lighting ceremony which was then carried around local institutions, bringing with it the symbolic message of peace and hope.

Sinj does not lack the entertainment program either. Bands such as Ljuta kuća, Z – Bend, Display, Ozon, Pop art, Trio acoustic and Uzbuna warm the crowds and the cold Sinj evenings and nights on Šetalište Alojzija Stepinca, while Jessy bend will be performing on New Year’s Eve. Beer, wine and gastro evenings will also be organized, while the residents of Sinj will show their big hearts through numerous charity events, reminding us all of the true spirit of Christmas. Sinj and the Cetinska krajina region bikers’ action was also a success. Candy and bake sales took place along music performances and the children were handed out presents.

Not to neglect tradition and rich cultural heritage – various programs sponsored by the Town of Trilj and Hrvace, Otok and Dicmo municipalities will take place and the visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy performances by local cultural and artistic associations. For those who want to hear the famous Sinj’s rera singing in a winter setting, or the real klapa song, where better to do so than at Advent in Sinj? Sinj residents and other enthusiasts will be delighted with the upcoming performance by Klapa Sinj and guests, taking place on December 21 in the projection hall of the Museum of the Sinjska Alka.

Widely renowned local gastronomy cannot bypass the little advent houses popular at every Christmas fair, offering a variety of tasty dishes which will make you forget about the cold, while the treats and mulled wine will warm even the coldest of nights.

Local NGOs will prove with their quality products that local is always the healthiest and most delicious option. Numerous exhibition of unique handmade products are also worth visiting.

Advent in Sinj also has a cultural-historical dimension present. The residents think about Alka all year long, but from December 3 they will also be reminded of it thanks to the monument of priest and writer don Ivan Filipović-Grčić, erected on top of the sinjski Kvartiri staircase, by the Alka Halls. Don Ivan was a hero in the battles against the Turks, one of the defense leaders in the 1715 Siege of Sinj, and one of the founders of the alka of Sinj.
