Croatian Tourist Board elects the destination of the year
This year, the Croatian Tourist Board will be electing the most popular Croatian destinations in several different categories:
- Most popular destination for summer vacation tourism
- Most popular destination for health tourism
- Authentic “malo misto” Mediterranean destination
- Most popular rural tourism destination
- Most popular continental Croatian destination
After applying and entering the top five in the most popular rural tourism destination, a presentation of the “Dalmatian Hinterland” destination ensued. The destination is made up of the following towns: Sinj, Imotski, Trilj, Vrlika, Vrgorac and the Dugopolje municipality. The presentation took place September 12 in Gospić, in front of the committee of 28 members from the Ministry of Tourism, Croatian Tourist Board, Croatian Chamber of Economy, Faculty of Economy in Zagreb, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, University of Dubrovnik and four different marketing agencies.
The presentation was successfully carried out by Tomislav Balić, the director of the Tourist Board of Dugopolje Municipality, and Monika Vrgoč, the director of the Sinj Tourist Board, accompanied by Dijana Maras, the director of the Vrlika Tourist Board.
After entering among the finalists for the most popular rural tourism destination, a formal evaluation of the destination followed. Yesterday, September 28, a Committee arrived on the field. The Committee was made up of Ana Vugrin, the representative of the Croatian Tourist Board, Ivana Vargaš, the representative of the Ministry of Tourism, Vesna Latinović from the Glas Slavonije and Dijana Katica from the Croatian Association for Tourism and Rural Development “Klub članova selo”.
The tours of the destination were carried out by the Committee members accompanied by the directors of the local tourist boards. In a specially demanding tour they managed to visit the Red and Blue Lakes in Imotski, Eco village Kokorići in Vrgorac, the Vranjača Cave in Dugopolje, Grabske mlinice in Trilj, and the Museum of Sinj Alka, the Our Lady of Sinj Sanctuary, and the Collections of the Franciscan monastery in Sinj. The winner in the category of most popular rural tourism destination of 2017 will be announced on the Day of Croatian Tourism, which will be celebrated on October 25 and 26 in Mali Lošinj.
